What is spring equinox?

Today is the spring equinox. Precisely, it was at 5:37am.

What is the spring equinox?
Equinox comes from Latin aequus, (equal) and nox, (night). The moment the Earth will have an equal number of day and night hours.

Equinoxes are the only two times a year that the Sun rises due east and sets due west for all of us on the planet.

Wintertime can really disrupt your sense of equilibrium with the additional darker hours in the day. But with the spring equinox, the Earth returns to a place of perfect balance, with equal day and night, equal light and dark. It brings the return of some much-needed balance into our own lives.

In the Northern Hemisphere,  spring equinox occurs when the Sun crosses the equator line, heading north. Astronomically, this marks the start of spring in the northern half of the Earth. From this point forward, the north begins to be tilted more toward the Sun, bringing more daylight hours and warming temperatures.

It’s a beautiful time to switch gears, open up for light and growth, a time to seed new ideas and goals. A time to prepare to bloom. 🌱🌷

So , what does it really mean?

The spring equinox is centered around more light, starting over & time for growth. It is the arrival of spring! The Earth is coming alive again after a long winter. We are waking up to more light, more warmth, new ideas and new dreams.

It is the perfect time to try new things out. The perfect time to start something new. To sow the seed of that old dream. Ask yourself, what excites you right now? What are your dreams, your goals, purpose? What are your deepest desires?

I’d like to invite you to do something symbolic to honor your life and this moment of rebirth in the next few days. Light a candle, write a poem, say a prayer, meditate about your path, your journey, go on a hike, connect with Mother Nature. Watch her come back in all her splendor from the cold and dark days. It’s the perfect time to welcome the life force living in all of us.

Open up to that force. Make a commitment to be silent for a few minutes each day. Promise yourself you’ll listen to your instincts.
Just as the world turns on its axis bringing the return of the light turn after turn, we can also count on the return of our own light & energy, and richness of our internal garden.

Do something fun, be playful. Appreciate the beauty of Nature taking over again. It’s spring time after all. 🌱🌷☀️💕
