Is it an island? Is it a park? How about both?

The almost 1,000 acres of this beloved island park is a unique place where you can appreciate Detroit’s grandiose past, its fall and its renaissance.

Located in the international waters of the Detroit River between the United States and Canada, there you can find the historic aquarium (the oldest in the country, designed by Albert Kahn), the abandoned casino, the luxurious and still functioning Yatch Club, a conservatory, a museum, a nature center and even a beach, among other attractions. A true “Jewel of Detroit”. The park also holds the Detroit Grand Prix, currently planned to return on June 5, 2021.

The fountain at Belle Isle. @michigantravelist

I love visiting the fountain, even when it’s off in the winter, where you can see the pompous fountain architecture against the city’s skyline in the background with the prominent Renaissance Center as one of its main features. Can you spot it in the photo?
